Wedding Indoor or Outdoor in Colorado by Katja Dietze, Wedding Planner
Colorado’s natural beauty is very tempting for outdoor Weddings, but what happens when….when it rains or thunders.
There are certain times in the Summer and Fall were strong rain or thunderstorms are present almost every afternoon. Experienced Wedding vendors will warn you about this.
With precautions a Wedding can be saved and wonderful even with a rain storm. To protect musicians, DJ equipment and Wedding guests, have a tent set up and properly secured to sustain very strong gusts. If there is a barn nearby see if it can be cleared out in advance to provide a shelter from the storm. Evening and nights in Colorado can become very chilling even in the Summer and especially at Altitude. Be sure heaters are available and functioning. You might even have a few blankets or fleeces for your guests if you do not want them to leave with the first chill.
Plan to only have the ceremony outside but always have a bad weather option available and nearby. Storms are often short and you could wait them out. Plastic or metal chairs are easier to dry than fabric chairs. Have towels ready for to dry the chairs!
Generally you have a better chance for sunshine in the morning. In the Summer the weather changes often in the early afternoon.
Good luck and if nothing else you might be able to shoot some great pictures with a beautiful Colorado rainbow.
