The Most Important Day of Your Life so Far by Lou Drakulich, Event Host and DJ
You have many decisions and choices to make. After all of your hard work, things still will not go exactly as you originally planned. Upon reflection, the next day and long after, you will see where you may have done a little better or should have anticipated something that you had not expected.
Not to worry, this is normal and you will probably be the only person there who even noticed.
Not everyone will appreciate your choice of colors, have your same taste in music or even share your preference for flowers but everyone should still be able to have a good time.
When it is all said and done, the feeling your guests ultimately come away with will depend upon how the last few hours of the reception went. Even if the food is disappointing, if they enjoyed what your wedding DJ did and played, they will walk out of the door smiling and later reflect upon your wedding with nothing but fond memories.
I am not saying, your choice of a DJ or MC is the most important decision you have to make but it ranks pretty high. Here are 6 points to ponder beyond those you may have already thought of.
- Is the person you are speaking with actually the same person who will DJ your wedding or are you speaking with a sales person or agency owner who will assign someone else to do the job
- Will your DJ also be your Master of Ceremonies and will it be his or her job to keep the proceedings on schedule and according to your scripted pan?
- Does your DJ have an understanding and a feel for the concept, mood and theme you wish to convey to your guests.
- Is your DJ capable of making adjustments on the fly when the inevitable occurs and things don’t go exactly as planned?
- Can your DJ entertain and help make the memory a positive one for all of your guests, regardless of their age or taste in music?
- Will your DJ come equipped with audio equipment up to the task of filling your wedding venue with clear and undistorted sound amplification for your music and the announcements and toasts that are to be made in your honor.
For these reasons, as well as many others, take the time to interview and choose your DJ carefully. Then, keep them in the loop during the planning stage and final run up to your wedding so there is no question in their mind what you expect.
DJ’s do events for a living and many have a broad range of experience. Take advantage of that experience and utilize them as a resource from the day you contract them right up to and including that most important day of your life so far.
